Event Details

CI WORKSHOP FLUIDITY & STRUCTURE
What is it that creates the flow in dancing together, the openness of body and mind to follow the obvious or the unpredictable in each moment?
After 25 years of teaching this dance form I still feel the mystery and magic around this question. My body knows it through experience. My mind thinks that getting the body in a fluid state is an essential part of the magic. At the same time we need this embodied knowledge of our bony structure to offer or read support, knowing intuitively when we can trust.
Fluidity and structure feel sometime very far away from each other – not only in the dance. Whilst acknowledging the weight bearing potential of our skeleton, we’ll also explore the elastic nature of fascia as a support for both fluidity and structure.
We’ll dive into somatic explorations alone and together. We’ll embrace stuckness as moments to deepen connections, we might find moments of magical flow … or not, but for sure we will dance a lot!

JOERG HASSMANN
Joerg has been dancing Contact Improvisation for over 25 years. He is inspired by Contact Improvisation, as a way to understand and celebrate the moving body and human communication.
Many sports, release techniques, somatic work, instant composition and creating dance and theatre performances inform his dance and his teaching.
For over a decade Joerg was the artistic director of the CI festival Contact-meets-Contemporary. Together with Daniel Werner he developed a systematic approach to Contact Technique, which they taught in Berlin and throughout Europe over 12 years.
His writings, offers and some video clips you find on his homepage www.joerghassmann.com.
Joerg is finding a second home for his somatic passion in the Zenthai community, where he is currently diving into the ZenThai therapist training.
CONTACT IMPROVISATION
Contact Improvisation is a dance form that strengthens the connection to oneself, the dance partners and the whole group. It’s underlying movement technique is based on the exploration of how two people can move together while being in physical touch, sharing weight. It benefits from empathic listening, generosity and curiosity and creates a space to practice letting go of expectations, allowing repetition and receiving the new as a refreshing byproduct.
