The depth of Basic CI technique

After 25 years of teaching Contact Improvisation I am still intrigued by the physical principles and experiential mysteries of this unique dance form. How do we understand each others offers, when do we feel met and heard, when free to go beyond the familiar?

So much of the delight of flow and the magic of satisfying communication has a strong grounding in our movement organisation and the technical part of Contact Improvisation.

I want to share some of my findings from working with developmental movement patterns and with the fascia. Together with my colleague Daniel Werner we developed rich material in facilitating our CI half year Programme in Berlin for over a decade.

And I am passionate about dancing that goes beyond a duet, that finds inspiration and interconnectedness by sensing the group as one intelligent organism – we might call this working on our Jam culture.

Weekend format:

Friday night 6pm-8.30pm

Saturday 9.30am-5.30pm with lunch break

Sunday 11am-5pm with lunch break

We, Joerg Hassmann, Catriona Davies and Benn DeMole are strongly motivated to, and experienced in, providing an inclusive, respectful and safe container for the practice of Contact Improvisation. Whilst this dance form can be practiced by adults of a wide range of abilities and movement backgrounds, it is ideal that you feel fairly comfortable to get down to the floor and up again and able to receive some weight. It is also highly preferable you have attended a minimum of two CI classes before coming to the workshop so that you have an idea of what you are committing to.

Refund policy

By purchasing a ticket you agree to these conditions:

*100% refund (minus Eventbrite booking fee) is available up to 72 hours before the event.

* 50% refund (minus Eventbrite booking fee) will be given for cancellations between 24 hours and the start of the workshop.

*If you have already started to participate in the workshop but do not to continue, no refund will be given.

*In the event of workshop cancellation by the organiser, a complete refund will be given. Thankyou for your understanding.
