20jan(jan 20)18:0022(jan 22)17:00Contact Improvisation / Workshop in Sydney

Event Details

Contact Improvisation is an amazing frame to experience how being independent & self sufficient supports a sense of connectedness.
On a physical level we’ll explore how all body parts can find more freedom and responsiveness, while being elastically connected to the center of the body.
From somatic based work that nurtures our solo we’ll research how we are connected to others and the group as a whole and eventually how to create Jams that are more than just a collection of closed off duets.
We’ll also work on committed, weight-sharing duets with some specific Contact-technical input. A question in the background will be how we can stay independent in these physically strongly connected dances and how to create more breathing and choice-making space to feed the improvisational mind, that makes us feel alive.
As usual, my work is somatically based, accessing our bodies wisdom through sensing and exploring with a flavour of wonder. We’ll dance a lot, while noticing the freedom and support we receive by being on a journey together as a group.
This workshop will be suitable for people with previous experience in Contact Improvisation. If in doubt please check in with Eamonn.

Inspired by contact improvisation for more than 25 years as a way to understand and celebrate the moving body and human communication. Many kinds of sports, release techniques, somatic work, instant composition and creating dance and theater performances have informed his dance and his teaching. Together with Daniel Werner he developed a systematic approach to Contact Technique that they taught over 12 years in Training Programmes in Berlin and throughout Europe.
