01apr18:0003(apr 3)17:00Contact Improvisation Workshop in SydneyFluidity & Openness

Event Details

I experience these current times as full of limitations and stuckness. Things don’t want to move forward easily, every plan or vision can come to a pause or end in any moment.

Sooo … I want to work very specifically with the body to experience more fluidity, openness, connectedness, freedom and play. The anchor for our journey will be the pelvis and the hip joints. It is potentially such a lush and vivid area of the body, that is able to support weight while having an incredible ability to fluidly adjust body tone and direction to serve our needs in best possible ways in every single moment. Some new insights from my deep learning process in the Zenthai Shiatsu universe will inspire my proposals. Basic Contact technique and some lifts will appear, I promise.

As usual, my work is somatically based, accessing our bodies wisdom through sensing and exploring with a flavor of wonder. We’ll dance a lot, while noticing the freedom and support we receive by being on a journey together as a group.

For people with previous experience in Contact Improvisation. If in doubt please check in with Eamonn.

Bio: Joerg Hassmann
Inspired by contact improvisation for more than 25 years as a way to understand and celebrate the moving body and human communication. Many kinds of sports, release techniques, somatic work, instant composition and creating dance and theater performances have informed his dance and his teaching. As the artistic director Joerg is involved in the CI festival ‘contact-meets-contemporary’. Together with Daniel Werner he developed a systematic approach to Contact Technique that they taught over 12 years in Training Programmes in Berlin and throughout Europe.
His writings under www.joerghassmann.com/blog/give deeper insights into his passion.
For the past two years Joerg has been living on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and is grateful to have options to share his passion and knowledge around the moving body – locally and in other parts of Australia. https://www.joerghassmann.com/
